1. Q67 - How much energy is embedded in agricultural products? (dontwastemy.energy)
2. The Beef Cycle (dontwastemy.energy)
3. Is living vegan better for our environment? (dontwastemy.energy)
I chose these three links because I'm very interested in agriculture and everything that has to do with it. I have been living on a farm in Hinwil since childhood and grew up with the animals and nature and so I also have been convoned from an early age. I love to work on our farm with the animals and the nature.
" A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.”
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
In my initial post , i had introduced my idea which includes looking into the agricultural methods used by the farmers in my country currently. By this we will have an idea on whether the farming methods used are harmful or not and while researching for this I had found many articles on the net :-
These are just some of the many articles present out there which More...
Last week the first climate lawsuit in Germany was negotiated in Berlin. Although the complaint was rejected, the three farmers concerned and their lawyer speak of a partial success.
Two weeks before the trial Claus Blohm leaves his harvest. A coach parks in his yard, next to it boxes full of apples with brown spots. Young people in Greenpeace rain jackets line up around the fruit trees, which did not bear a single apple this year after last year's hot summer. Blohm wants to show the young people that climate change is not taking place somewhere in the world and not just in computer simulations - but here, More...
Agriculture is a major part as it provides the much-needed food products and other materials. But our current agricultural trend is doing nothing but harm the environment, reduce the nutritional value of the plant and deteriorate the natural fertility of the soil. The first part of the project will contain the causes for the crisis such as:
- Excessive use of chemical fertilizers
- Over irrigation
- Destroying large areas of forest land to convert into agricultural area
- Deteriorates the natural fertility of the soil
- Reduces the nutritional value of the crop
- Harmful effects of the use of fertilizers
The second part will contain ways in which we can reduce some of these problems, such as:
- Educating the farmers on a better and rational way of using fertilizers
- Organic farming
Organic farming would the main part. While researching on organic farming, I found that there were many old farming techniques which are way cheaper to make and also doesn’t harm the environment. Thus, I found that our ancestors have left us many such methods. Some of the methods that were used back then in India are:
- Jiwamritha
- Bijamritha
- Agnisastra
Feel free to check the video out to get more idea about this project.
I would love to know about any such organic farming techniques that your country may have. And I would also love to hear your opinions on my idea so feel free to comment what you think.

Sivani
"Our emissions are globally small, but high per capita"
The high level of agricultural production in New Zealand means we produce a lot of methane and nitrous oxide which have a greater warming effect compared with carbon dioxide. Based on the latest available inventory data for 2016, New Zealand’s gross emissions ranked 24th among the Annex I countries, but our emissions per person were the seventh highest at 16.9 tonnes CO2-e per capita.
