Step 3 - Experiences

Hello everyone

We are still in the process. Nevertheless we want to share our experiences with you. The teamwork is going quite well, although we can only work from home.

It's not as easy as we thought, regarding to the materials of jewellery, the necklace comes in many different variations, moreover the exact materials are not always described.

But we try to do the best possible.

book sharing - step 3 (experience)

Hello together,

we actually had a good start. When the lockdown followed and we weren't sure for a long time what would happen with our graduation, communication and teamwork became more difficult. About a month ago we found out that there were no final exams. For this reason we were able to devote ourselves to this project without any stress. During the past weeks we learned how much energy it takes to produce an iPad and a book, that there is a tree library in Hinwil and what other possibilities there are to share the books. We will publish the report soon. But we can say that it was still an instructive and interesting time, although it was not easy either.

Best regards,

Maria & Deniz

Calculation

Helo everyone

The calculation of how much energy we can save if we would increasingly share video games is as follows: If we assume that 400,000 people in Switzerland use a PS4 or similar and that the download for one gigabyte takes 0.06 kilowatt hours , everyone has an average of 300 GB on their Playstation, the download comes with a power consumption of around 7,000,000 kWh. This does not even include other things as the server's power consumption for example. We believe that sharing video games could save at least a third. That means we would save about 2’300’00 kWh. By the way: Around 60,000,000 kWh of electricity is consumed in Switzerland each year for video games. And that if you only use the PS4 on average for one hour a day.

Kind regards,

Deia and Rezon

Step 3 - Experience

Hello everyone

We would like to share with you our experience that we had during working on this project. First of all, we really enjoyed working on this project because it was a new challenge for us to create an app. We struggled a bit to find the right tool to create an app. The main problem was that most tools were not free. So that's why we decided to create the app SHARE-it on Powerpoint. We spent a lot of time on this because we wanted to finish this project so quick as possible.

with kind regards

Lars & Dharany

Experience - The World in 100 years

Our experience about this project:

We are concerned with the question "What does the world look like in 100 years?"

We wanted to do an interview with a climate scientist, a food scientist and a biologist. This   turned out to be more difficult than planned. Some didn't have time for the interview and the others didn't respond to our emails. Fortunately, we finally found three scientist. At the end of December we received all answers to the interview.

During a lesson we asked the class to write or draw down on a sheet how they imagine food, climate and plants in 100 years.

When we evaluated (ausgewertet) the results from the students and scientist we found out that the answers were very similar.

What surprised us most was that everyone imagines that the world will develop negatively!

We look forward to publish our results.

Team Local Product made a video

Hi you,

You might have read our post from the filming day with a drone. During winter holidays we collected different pieces of videos and the next step was now to put them together to a nice video.

First of all, we had to decide on which pieces we really want to use for the video, we trimmed them to good sizes to make sure everything fits together as well as found a relaxing music track. The video has been put together with the program "Filmora9" with help of a friend (as it was also his program). This part was very time comsuming as it was not as easy as though to decide on "the best" material. After having trimmed them, we adjusted the speed of the different parts and inserted pictures with quotes from the interview, whichs' spelling had been checked by another friend before.

The finale post on befter will follow soon.

Experience - Step 3

We quickly realized how important communication is in a teamwork. The goal was to work together with our team members in India, which unfortunately was not achieved in the beginning because it was difficult to establish contact. Therefore we had to start alone. We both could throw in our ideas, discuss and show our own strengths. Since there were "only" the two of us in the end, we quickly got into stress, because we lost a lot of time. Nevertheless we managed to find and write down the necessary information. Also the survey with the family went without any problems.

What did we learn regarding teamwork during this time?

  • Time management is very important
  • In order for the team to work, we have to listen to the other person and also accept other opinions
  • In teamwork there is a give and take, i.e. the tasks must be divided fairly and attention must be paid to each other

Of course we found out a lot of interesting facts and information about our topic. The post will be published soon.

Step 3: Experience

Hello everyone

To date, we have received 120 responses to our survey, which makes us very happy. However, the survey has not yet been completed and we are still waiting for more responses.

If you have not yet filled out the survey, you are welcome to do so!

Attached you will find our prepared excel file for the analysis of the survey, which we will also implement in our web-post.

Stay tuned for our final results!

Survey - Organic Farming

Hi guys,

For the next step of my project, I have decided to conduct a survey.

The main goal of this survey is to find people's thoughts on organic farming, chemical fertilizers and harsh farming techniques. Through this survey I am trying to find out whether people think that organic farming could help us and is it sustainable?

Link to the survey, please send it to all your friends and colleagues!

Team Local Product – Step 4: Shape & create

Summary of the Interview with the local farmer Martin Keller

The journey to the local farm was a great experience as we learned a lot about apples and gained knowledge about farming. Martin Keller didn’t just told us the answers to our questions, he also showed us the apple plantation, other fruit trees and told us about differences between the sorts, he gave us apples and apple cider (Apfelmost)  to try and he told us different stories about his job which actually is also a big part of his life.

Arriving at the farm, first of all, Martin showed us around. Interestingly, the local farmer owns more than 12 different sorts of apples as well as pears, cherries, grapes but also horses, cows and the naughty (frech) cat called Flocke.

The lifecycle of an apple trees starts with choosing and growing the baby tree, they are grown in tree nurseries (Baumschulen) and can bought with an age of one or two years. Martin Keller personally tend to buy two years old trees as first apples can be harvested from the apple trees third living-year on. More...
