Speedy "gonzales" post: Hydro Energy

Hydropower is power which is gained from the energy of falling or fast-running water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes. Hydropower has been used as a renewable energy source since ancient times. It was used for the irrigation and operation of various mechanical devices, such as gristmills, sawmills, textile mills, trip hammers, dock cranes and domestic lifts.

Since the early 20th century, the term has been used almost exclusively in conjunction with the modern development of hydroelectric power. International institutions such as the the World Bank view hydropower as a mean for economic development without adding substantial amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.

This graph shows the different energysources, which we use in Switzerland.

Vocabulary:
Harnessed: nutzbar machen
Irrigation: Bewässerung
Gristmill: Schrotmühle
Conjunction: Verbindung

    Hi guys,
We really liked your post. It is very well structured and has a meaningful picture. However, your quiz-question is missing, as well as the direct link. What we also would have found interesting is, where in switzerland we use the hydro energy, if there is this information.
    Best regards,
    Alex and Matteo
