Introduction
Every year, many young students have to pay around 1000 Swiss francs for their new school books in order to start the BMS. Therefore many trees are getting felled which is not good for our environment. Additionally the old books would just get burned which creates a lot of co2 emissions and wastes a large amount of energy. So wouldn't it be better if the students who finished the BMS could just give their books to the new students? This way we could safe a lot of trees and money at the same time.
My idea
This is the idea I have and which I believe could help a lot of students and the environment at the same time.
I know that many people are just throwing away a low of products, including their old school books and therefore it is important to think in a more resource saving way. With this idea a lot of paper could be saved and maybe this will also change the way how people think generally about throwing products away. Because once they see that another person can use their old school books maybe they will also realise that the same system works for other products. This could lead into people thinking in a more resource saving way.
E-books
It is important to mention that a lot of schools or universities don't offer any books at all because of the possibility with e-books on I pads. My idea would be useless if all schools would completely get rid of "real books" but I believe that it could take a while until all schools are changing to e-books and until then, I am convinced that my idea will help a lot of people and the trees.
Challenge
As a challenge it would be extremely interesting to find out how many trees, how much energy, how many co2 emissions and also how much money could be saved this way. But I think that it could be very difficult to make this calculation since many different aspects play a role.
How to reach the goal
In order to reach my goal, I have to make my idea public so that many people know about it. My idea can only work if many students are willing to give their old books to new students and the new students have to know about it so that they won't order the new books already. First of all I could make a survey and ask students if they are even interested in this idea. As a second step it would be very nice if many people could tell their friends about this idea. The more people know about it, the better. And as the last step it would be very nice if a website could be created. On the website all the new students could order the used books for free.
Conclusion
It is essential to say that I can't put this idea through only by myself. Many other students have to believe in this idea the same way as I do and they also have to offer their old books to new students. I can't make a difference by myself but together we can!
