People have always made use of solar energy, for example when they let their laundry dry outdoors. Today, the word "solar energy" mainly brings to mind that people can make electricity from it. However, this requires solar cells that take up a lot of space. The sun's rays are converted directly into electricity. Such solar cells can already be seen on many house and factory roofs.
It is easier to use the heat of the sun's rays. Some appliances are solar cookers that concentrate the sun's rays. At a certain point, it gets so hot that you can fry meat, for example. With solar collectors, you can heat water and use it for washing or showering. You can also use them to drive turbines and thus generate electricity.
Producing solar power also has many advantages, for example;
- Increasing the profitability of a solar plant, by optimizing the own consumption
- Producing sustainable electricity and using it efficiently by sharing it with other people
