
Pumpkin (Cucurbita)
A pumpkin is a cultivar of a Squash plant.
Most of the pumpkins are round with smooth, slightly ribbed skin and mostly deep orange and yellow.
They have a very thick Shell and are filled with seeds and pulb.
You can grow pumpkins all around the world and there are also big pumpkin fields in switzerland, but they are originally from mexico.
China produces around 8 milions of tonnes a year followed by india with 5.1 and russia with 1.2

Uses
You can gain a lot of different things from a pumpkin and process them to a big variety of meals.
For example pumpkin pie, rosted pumpkin, pumpkin soupe, pumpkin leaves, pumpkin seed, pumpkin seed oil.
There are also pumpkin Festivals and competitions where the biggest pumpkin is searched. In some comeptitions a Team has to hollow out a very big pumpkin and then drive in it over a sea. It's calles "Kürbisregatta" and takes place on the Pfäffikersee. Anja was watching this race when she was a child so we took the plant pumpkin.
