Water supply and climate change in agriculture - Step 1

Step 1 — Imagination

In our project we want to show how water is used for food production on farms. For this we will do an interview with farmers in the region. The most interesting thing is that we have data from Switzerland and India. Thus, we can compare these two completely different countries in this topic.
The climate in Switzerland, unlike India, will be different. What influence this has on the water consumption on farms would interest us too.

In order to answer these questions, we will ask the following questions to the regional farmers:

  • What grain are you planting?
  • How big is your plantation?
  • Where's the water for the plantation coming from?
  • How does climate change affect agriculture?
  • How do you think the climate is affecting agriculture and food security?
  • What are the biggest problems with the water?
  • What was the biggest problem you had with regard to the climate and how did you solve it?
  • Is there any way to save water? If so, how?
  • Is it difficult to get the water needed to irrigate the plantation?

If we imagine how water will be used in 100 years in the agriculture, we don‘t think very positiv. Because of the climat change the farmers need to water their plantage more often than today. It will not rain as often and if it rains the rainfall is much weaker.

Our opinion is that agriculture is very important for our environment. Because of the climate chance we think there might be a problem with the watering of grain and other planted food. We might have a problem with the dryness. The aim is to find out more about the use of water!

In addition to this interview, we have opened an instagram account. Every week we will make at least two posts about facts of water. So if you are interested, follow us on instagram the_use_of_water

Thank you very much for your attention!

Kind Regard from Switzerland and India
