Water and agriculture — Step 4 Introduction

Introduction

With this article, we want to show you how water is used for food production on farms. We also wanted to know from where the farmers are taking their water to irrigate their plantations. In addition, a very important and interesting question for us was, if the farmers use a special way to save water and how difficult it is to get the water needed to irrigate the plantation. Also the thing, how climate change affects water consumption on farms made us wonder. To answer all these questions we have made an interview with a local farmer from Switzerland and India. Because we had the opportunity to collaborate with a boy from India, we were able to compare the water consumption on Swiss farms with that of India. You are able to read our findings from the interview below.

It's really interesting! It would've been really great if would compare it also with a Belgian farmer. That would gave us the opportunity to see de differences between the 3 of them and also see which one of them uses more water!
