A laptop has always been used for 3 hours a day. It used 50 Watts = 0.15 kwh per day. The costs for 1kwh is 0.20 Francs
Now because of the corona virus we have to use the laptop for 7 hours a day. How many kilowatt hours per day is that and how much does it cost per day?

My room is heated with gas. The most common is natural gas, as well as liquid gases. Urban gas or biogas are less common. The whole house has a kind of central heating or boiler. There is a heater in my room. I can choose the heat myself. In summer the heating level is always at 0 and in winter between 3 to 5. In order to prevent an explosion when the flame goes out due to the escape of unburned gas, gas heaters are equipped with a fuse (Zündsicherung). More...

For our calculation we have chosen a microwave oven with 1000 watt power. The picture below shows the energy consumption of a microwave oven that is used for 6 minutes per day.
This is the formula to calculate the value: E(kWh/day) = P(W) × t(h/day) / 1000(W/kW)

Which energy do we use at home?
At home we use pellets to heat our rooms.
What are pellets?
Pellets are small wooden pieces. Raw materials get crushed and pressed in the same size. They always get produced dry.
Advantages
Wood has advantages over fossil fuels: it is climate neutral and for a long time it was cheaper than heating oil. Above all, wood grows back and is not finite, in contrast to the oil reserves. Wood pellets can be used to heat in environmentally friendly way.

The refrigerator is used for our Energy consumption calculator example. 1000 watt is one kilowatt.
Kilowatt is a unit for energy and work. We took the refrigerator because it is used daily and is switched on during day and night.

Our house is heated with oil. We have a big oil tank as you can see on the picture. Many households are using oil as energy to heat the house or appartement. This isn’t the best way as it is a nonrenewable energy but the number of heating oil energy is decreasing.

We have a floor heating system at our apartment.
The floor heating is a surface heating system that consists of pipes in the floor. If warm heating water flows through the system, it releases thermal energy and first heats up the screed in the underfloor heating system. The heat then flows upwards into the room.
-my Energy source is heating oil
-The function of oil heating systems is in principle quite simple. The oil is pumped into the oil tank and heated. With the help of fine nozzles it is then atomised and sprayed into the combustion chamber where it is ignited by electric sparks. The resulting heat is then directed to the water in the boiler, which is then transported to the radiator. The resulting exhaust gases are released via the chimney.

A PS4 uses 89 watts per hour. 1 kilowatt costs 30 cents. How many swiss francs do we need to pay, if we use it for 5 hours a day in the next 6 weeks?
You can find the solution on the onenote.

In our house we heat with a heat pump (Wärmepumpe) which has an earth probe (Erdsonde).
The probe goes into the earth and takes heat from there and brings it into the house. So we use the earth's heat. It is actually a very environment friendly process, since we don't need any oil or something like that and it's renewable since the earth's heat is always active and doesn't get damaged within this process. But it's very complex since you need to drill the hole (ca. 120 - 150m deep) and put the earth probe inside and everything.
On this picture you can see how it works.
