A future without plastic or at least much less plastic would be so much better. We want to show with this project what biodegradable foil is and the opportunity of this foil. Which raw materials are needed? Is it truly so much better than plastic? How expensive is it? The advantages and disadvantages? What will change in the world?  We want to Show also more alternatives to plastic but our focus will be on biodegradable foil because we have good connections with a company which produces packaging foils. We want to find answers to all our open questions.

The Agricultural crisis

Agriculture is a major part as it provides the much-needed food products and other materials. But our current agricultural trend is doing nothing but harm the environment, reduce the nutritional value of the plant and deteriorate the natural fertility of the soil. The first part of the project will contain the causes for the crisis such as:

  • Excessive use of chemical fertilizers
  • Over irrigation
  • Destroying large areas of forest land to convert into agricultural area
  • Deteriorates the natural fertility of the soil
  • Reduces the nutritional value of the crop
  • Harmful effects of the use of fertilizers

The second part will contain ways in which we can reduce some of these problems, such as:

  • Educating the farmers on a better and rational way of using fertilizers
  • Organic farming

Organic farming would the main part. While researching on organic farming, I found that there were many old farming techniques which are way cheaper to make and also doesn’t harm the environment. Thus, I found that our ancestors have left us many such methods. Some of the methods that were used back then in India are:

  • Jiwamritha
  • Bijamritha
  • Agnisastra

We would like to put forward our view on the increasing usage of fertilizers and pesticides in crops and their impact on biosphere.

The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of united nations has issued a sobering forecast that world food production needs to be increased by 70% inorder to keep pace with the demand of growing population. In order to keep up with the race we have increased the amount of fertilizers and pesticides to increase the produce. But taking into consideration the consequences we are facing like direct poisoning, high risks  of cancer, deteriorating climate ita high time we look into this matter seriosly. 

The long term fertilizer and pesticide application disturb the biochemical process of nutrient cycling. 98%of sprayed insecticides and 95%of herbicides reach destinations otger than the target species. They are carried to aquatic environments ans cause damage to aquatic life. These toxicants get into the food cycle and we consume these toxic subatances.They also contami ate the atmosphere. What we do not realize or tend not to  is the fact that we are  the ones who face the consequences.

Alternatives:Use of pesticides and fertilizres tgat can be degraded and assimilated by microorganisms that is organic matter.

Using the appropriate amount of fertilizers after proper analysis in laboratories.

 

Project idea :: Climate Impacts on Agriculture and Food Supply

Hai, everyone, we are having an idea on the topic "Climate Impact on Agriculture and Food Supply".we think that this is would be a best topic as it can be connected to food and climate very easily. as nowadays climate is a main challenge for the farmers to do agriculture.

If the agricultural products get decreased due to climate change then it will result in food insecurity.

The flood that affected in Kerala last year has caused a total agricultural loss of 6,281 crore Indian rupees and 25138 tonnes of production in spices itself.

So we think this would be a great topic.
